The following are events that are taking place in St John’s.

 

Saturday 10th March (10am-4pm) – The Vikings are coming

Come along to St Johns and see the Vikings set up camp outside church.  Includes Living History Displays where they explain how the Vikings lived and a full combat battle area where you can fight a Viking Warrior

Saturday 12th May – Chester Poppy Memorial Walk (10am-4pm)

5 Mile Scenic Tour of the City, Accompanied by WW1 Soldiers. Dogs Welcome, Wheelchair and Buggy friendly. Quiz. Souvenir Goody Bag. Starting at and returning to St Johns Church

National Dementia Week

Exhibitions and Memory Walk

Join us at the church to listen to a talk about weddings in the past and then stroll in Grosvenor Park and enjoy the memories trail.  then visit the Grosvenor Park Pavilion and enjoy looking at archives, images and handling objects.

Friday 22nd June (7pm) – Music Concert

The Sierra Vocal Arts Ensemble – California

This American Community choir from Porterville, California are touring the UK and performing in Ireland, England and Scotland and we are lucky enough to have an evening with them – The content of the performance is to be confirmed. Previously in the UK in 2009 they performed at Salisbury Cathedral, St Pauls Convent Garden and after an afternoon with John Rutter performed at St Marys in Cambridge

Saturday 23rd June (10am-4pm) – Minstrels Court

Chester Summer Watch Parade. Chester Live Event

The oldest ceremony in the City performed in its original setting – Medieval Minstrel re-enact coming to St Johns to receive their licence to perform in Cheshire. Within the Church there will be re-enactors showing us how the Medieval people lived and worked.

Saturday 30th June (12noon) – History of St John’s Talk by The Rector, David Chesters OBE

Chester Heritage Festival – 22 – 30 June

Talk by the Rector on the Historic and Religious importance of St Johns – an oft forgotten Grade One Listed Church.  The Great Minster of West Mercier founded in 689AD and then the Cathedral and Collegiate Church of Chester until 1541.

Recorded as one of the very few major Parish Churches of England by the Church Buildings Council in 2017
